At home in the part
Hello! I'm Esther Weetman! And for those who have been coming to Saddleworth players for a number of years, yes, I am John and Jo Weetman's daughter!
I've been acting since I was about 7 years old, with one of my first plays being at Saddleworth Players called "The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew" which featured the whole Weetman clan - including my grandad, Philip Weetman (you may know him too!) I played the cymbals in a procession and was otherwise moved around the stage by various members of the cast as I was absolutely clueless but I loved every second of it!
Since then, I've gone on to hop around a few different theatres, playing parts such as 'Scout' in "To Kill a Mockingbird" and 'Katie O'Brien' in "The Fifteen Streets". I've also been doing musicals with HAODS for nearly 13 years, where I have had the joy of playing parts such as 'Anybodys' in "West Side Story", 'Madame Thenardier' in Les Mis and more recently I was a Delta Nu in "Legally Blonde the Musical."
However, I've always felt that when I am in a play, I am most at home when I am playing at Saddleworth. The atmosphere is so lovely and I've met some wonderful people here over the years who have inspired me and encouraged me, so to be asked to do a play here is a real treat!
Thinking about my part, Hilda, we have quite a lot in common. For example, we both share an 'older' name, we both don't like herrings, we both enjoy sulking from time to time, and we both like port wine! So this has worked out fairly well for me!
It's been fairly interesting to have my other grandad, Rod Fitton, direct me in this play! I'm not quite sure how he has taken it, but it's been something I'd definitely love to do again. (Hoping I get a good Christmas present for saying that now!)
Thanks for taking some time out to read this. I don't know whether this has made you understand anything about me apart from that I enjoy port wine (and many other alcoholic beverages if you're offering - especially rum) but if you want to know anything else, or check to see who else i may be related to, feel free to chat to me after the play! Enjoy! :)
